Our Story

JYCTY began with curiosity.

I became fascinated by the fragrances people already knew and loved. I wanted to understand why they worked. Why one scent felt effortless while another stayed in your memory for hours. Why a tiny change in woods, musks, florals, resins or sweetness could completely change the way a fragrance felt on skin.

So I started studying them the best way I knew how: by recreating them.

Working with well-known fragrances became an education in perfumery. I learned to follow a scent from its opening through its dry-down, to notice the materials hiding beneath the obvious notes, and to understand how balance, diffusion, texture and longevity shape the entire experience.

I tested. I compared. I changed things. Sometimes I got it wrong. Then I tried again.

Over time, something changed.

I stopped only asking, "How did they make this?"

I started asking, "What would I do differently?"

That question opened an entirely new world.

As an independent perfumer, I am not designing fragrance for a corporate brief, a global focus group or a marketing department. I do not have to make something appeal to everyone. I can follow an idea simply because it fascinates me.

I can use an unusual material because it creates exactly the effect I want. I can make something darker, stranger, softer or more extravagant. I can keep adjusting a formula long after a larger company might have decided it was finished.

There are still rules I take very seriously. Safety matters. IFRA guidelines matter. Quality matters.

But creatively, there are very few rules at all.

That freedom is what led to my original fragrances.

Some are inspired by Toronto neighbourhoods I have known for most of my life. Others begin with a material, a memory, a texture or simply an idea I cannot stop thinking about. They are not designed to imitate anything. They are my interpretation of what fragrance can be when there is no brief to follow.

In a strange way, recreating famous perfumes taught me how to stop following them.

It trained my nose, gave me enormous respect for great perfumery, and eventually gave me the confidence to create fragrances entirely on my own terms.

That is where JYCTY is today.

Part fragrance library. Part ongoing experiment. Part love letter to the craft that pulled me in and never really let go.

And I am still learning.

I hope I always am.
